The West Coast Region Zonal Championship has taken a dramatic turn after both Gunjur and Sukuta were handed automatic defeats and fined D15,000 each for failing to show up for their respective scheduled matches.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary General of Gunjur Sports Committee, the Organising Committee confirmed that Gunjur failed to appear for their fixture against Sanyang Zone on 21st November 2025.

According to the letter, “your zone failed to show up for the fixture.” Citing Article 13.1 of the competition regulations, the committee stressed that, “Any team that fails to report for a scheduled match or refuses to play or even match out of the field of play without the authorization of the match commissioner, shall forfeit its points (3 points and 3 goals) and shall be liable to a fine or suspension or both.”

As a result, Gunjur has been penalised with a 3–0 forfeit defeat and a D15,000 fine, with the committee stating; “Gunjur Zone has been fined fifteen thousand dalasis and forfeit 3 points with 3 goals for the Sanyang Zone vs Gunjur Zone game… This fine must be paid before your quarter-final game.”

Similarly, Sukuta Zone has also been sanctioned after failing to show up for their match against Gunjur on 23rd November 2025 at the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field.

The letter addressed to the Sukuta Sports Committee reads “Your zone failed to show up for the fixture. Reiterating Article 13.1, the Organising Committee again emphasised the mandatory punishment for such violations.

Consequently, “Sukuta Zone has been fined fifteen thousand dalasis and forfeit 3 points with 3 goals for the Gunjur Zone vs Sukuta Zone game.”
