The head of Gambia Police Anti-Crime Unit, Gorgi Mboob, has admitted lying before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Mr Mboob, who has been implicated in human rights violations during the April 10/11, 2000 students demonstrations, admitted that some parts of his testimony to the TRRC are ‘cook up’ stories.

According to a TRRC Act, it is a serious offence to “knowingly give false testimony” to the Truth Commission and carries a fine or custodial sentence.

This is the first appearance of the controversial police commander before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission.

His testimony continues.
