Intense rain on Saturday submerged some houses and disrupted businesses in many parts of The Gambia.

The torrential rain which began in the early hours of Saturday continued nonstop through to Sunday morning.

“We didn’t sleep last night, our houses are flooded with rain waters,” a woman told Gambiana in tears.

A video seen online shows a well-built home susbmerged as women could be heard crying for help in agony while other video shared in Brufut shows homes flooded with waters.

Meanwhile, businesses have also been put to a halt across many parts of the Greater Banjul Area.

Fears are growing of huge destruction by the rains especially within the Greater Banjul where many complained of poor drainage system.

Destructions and floods during the rainy season are common in Gambian towns and villages, despite millions of dalasis injected into road works and other infrastructure projects by the Nationa Disater Management Agency.

Last year dozen of families were made homeless after their homes were flooded.
