Imam Bakawsu Fofana has urged the Gambian government and its people to go back to farms and do agriculture in order to tackle hunger in the country.

The Imam was speaking at State House mosque during a Friday sermon. The firebrand Imam was invited by the  President Adama Barrow. 

“In order to maintain peace and order, we need to tackle hunger. If one is hungry, he or she does not fear his or her leader, but if his or her belly is full, he or she does not mind following their leader,” he said.

“So, I want to tell the leaders of Africa to fight hunger for peace in order for peace to prevail. To attain food self-sufficiency in Africa, everyone should go back to land to do agriculture.

“Because quarreling does not solve hunger, crying does not solve hunger. The only thing that solve hunger is going back to the farms to do agriculture. So, my advice to fellow Gambians is that let us all go back to the farms and do agriculture to tackle hunger,” he added.
