An immigration officer whose nude video went viral on social media has been demoted from the rank of Sergeant to Corporal.

Sergeant Bakery Y Jarjue’s demotion comes after the Immigration Department concluded an investigation into the nude scandal.

He was found guilty and was charged with “discreditable conduct and misdemeanour” under the laws governing the behaviour of Gambian civil servants.

Immigration spokesman Mamanding Dibba told Gambiana on Monday: “This matter was investigated and at the end of the investigation, the officer was sermoned to an orderly room and at the end of the day he was found wanting.”

He added: “The charges that were levelled against him included discreditable conduct and misdemeanour. 

“So based on this misconduct, we referred ourselves to the GO and the relevant laws that governed the behaviour of civil servants, and as a result the officer was punished accordingly.”

“He was demoted from his existing rank which was Sergeant down to [the] rank of a Corporal,” Mr Dibba said.
