Former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has launched a fresh verbal attack on President Adama Barrow, questioning how the president appears to know so much about his life in exile.

In an audio recording, Jammeh mocks Barrow’s claims of knowing about his daily activities, including when he eats and whether he is sick.

“You say you know when I eat; every day you know what I am doing. If I am sick, you know.”

Jammeh then challenges Barrow directly:

“You know what I do every day. Who are you?”

The former president also accuses Barrow of going too far by repeatedly linking him to attempts to destabilise The Gambia.

“But Adama Barrow, you are going too far, reporting me everywhere, trying to destabilise the country.”

Jammeh says he does not want anyone using his name to threaten others and insists he has no intention of bringing war or destruction to The Gambia.

“I will be the last human being on earth … that will bring destruction to The Gambia and kill innocent women and children.”

At the same time, he maintains that he has the right to defend himself, his integrity and the country.

“I have a right to defend myself. I have a right to defend my integrity. And I have a right to defend my country.”

Jammeh ends with a message to Barrow that is likely to draw further attention:

“You better fix the problem of The Gambia rather than every day lying about me.”

The recording comes ahead of The Gambia’s December 2026 presidential election, with Jammeh continuing to command significant attention in the country’s political discourse.

Jammeh ruled The Gambia for 22 years before losing the 2016 presidential election to Barrow. He left for Equatorial Guinea in January 2017 after initially rejecting the election result.
