Janjanbureh acute water shortage has been partially solved days after residents of the town were forced to cook with river waters.

Speaking exclusively to Gambiana, Omar Jatto Jammeh, national assembly member for Janjanbureh said: “For now, I will say partially the situation is addressed because we are now getting water for 12 hours.

“But again, we want to get it for the normal 24 hours and as such we are getting them [NAWEC] to employ a second staff because it is due to low voltage that the problem [is happening].

“So, we think with a second staff that person can help to operate the engine when the voltage is high.”

According to Jammeh, the town has been facing water and electricity problems for two months with no ways to address it.

“Actually, I think for about two months, we have been affected because the supply has been 12 hours per day, and this is mostly at night from 9pm to 9am that they supply us with water which have not been the tradition before. Until recently we have not been having water for a whole day or days rather,” Jammeh said.

He added that he was trying to make The Gambia’s electricity company, NAWEC, “understand the situation through recommendations and also work with them closely to help the community have what they really require.”
