Vulnerable children in flood-affected communities across The Gambia have received a major boost after the Government of Japan, through the World Food Programme (WFP), handed over critical nutrition supplies to support those most at risk.

The support, delivered yesterday, includes Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) supplies, aimed at addressing the growing nutritional needs of children affected by recent flooding and preventing the slide into severe malnutrition.

Health officials said the intervention comes at a crucial time, as floods have disrupted livelihoods and access to food in several communities, leaving children particularly exposed to hunger and poor nutrition.

The initiative highlights the strong partnership between the Government of The Gambia, Japan, and WFP, with a shared commitment to protecting child health while strengthening community resilience during recovery efforts.

The Ministry of Health welcomed the assistance, praising Japan and WFP for their timely response and continued dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of children nationwide.

Officials noted that sustained support remains vital as communities rebuild, stressing that early nutritional intervention is key to safeguarding children’s growth and long-term development.
