The Kunta Kinteh ferry has been taken out of service for the next six weeks for maintenance.

“Kunta Kinteh ferry will be withdrawn for dry-docking for the following maintenance works to be carried out; underwater, scraping, welding, painting, installation of the new engines, and propulsion. The works are expected to last for six weeks with effects from the 6th March 2024,” Gambia Ferry Service said.

Trucks owners are advised to use the south bank route as the Gambia Ferry Service said the “Kanilai ferry will be deployed to provide limited service along the Banjul and Barra route.”

The protracted breakdown of the ferries have left travellers to use alternative routes with double fares or abandon their journeys.
