Police have removed the bodies of a Mauritanian couple found dead in their shop in a suspected murder-suicide near the Poco Loco Junction in the Senegambia strip.

According to police, the grim discovery was made when a neighbour went to make enquiries about the continuos cry of an infant coming from the locked shop.

And police said when the neighbour prised open the shop window he discovered the baby crying near the bodies of his dead parent.

There were blood stains everywhere in the shop and adjoining room. The deceased couple both sustained what appears to be knife wounds. It appears to be a domestic dispute and could be a murder-suicide but police have not given any detail yet as they continue with their investigation.

The baby also suffered wounds to the leg and was taken to the Serekunda General Hospital for medical treatment.

Police with the help of the Fire and Rescue Service have removed the bodies from the shop and the area has been cordoned off.

The deceased owner of the shop was identified as Sheikh Babou and was said to have lived in the area for at least 20 years.

The Mauritanian ambassador to The Gambia was among the crowd at the scene and shocked neighbours have expressed their disbelief that such incident could have happened in the area.
