Gambia coach Jonathan McKinstry says his side noticed signs of tension among some Ghana players before completing a stunning 4-2 comeback win over the Black Stars in Accra.

The Gambia fell two goals behind but produced a remarkable second-half turnaround to score four unanswered goals and leave the Accra Sports Stadium with all three points.

The victory marked The Gambia’s second consecutive win in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, putting McKinstry’s side in a strong position early in the campaign.

McKinstry said his players had identified signs of frustration within the Ghana team during the match and believed the situation could work in their favour.

“We noticed that a few of the Black Stars players were unhappy with each other. So we knew there was disruption [in the team]…”

The Gambia remained composed despite falling 2-0 behind and gradually turned the game around, with the Scorpions capitalising on opportunities as Ghana struggled to regain control.

McKinstry praised his players for their resilience and ability to respond after a difficult start, as The Gambia completed one of their most notable away victories in recent years.

The result gives The Gambia six points from their opening two matches in the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
