The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs has rejected claims circulating on social media that the late Abdoulie Ngum was the owner of the Casino Beach Bar, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a press release, the ministry said it has become aware of what it called “misleading information” being shared online regarding the ownership of the property, and said it was compelled to clarify the matter for public record.
The ministry explained that it is the official custodian of all leasehold titles in The Gambia and maintains records relating to land ownership and property leases.
Based on those records, the ministry said there is no documentation under its custody indicating that Mr Ngum ever owned the Casino Beach Bar.
It therefore described the allegation as “utterly false and misleading.”
The ministry further informed the public that the issue is currently the subject of an ongoing judicial case, and urged Gambians to refrain from spreading unverified claims while the matter remains before the courts.
It called on the general public to disregard the circulating reports and encouraged citizens to rely on official channels for accurate information.
The statement also contained a warning to media outlets, urging journalists and news organisations to remain committed to verification and responsible reporting.
While reaffirming its commitment to transparency, good governance and public accountability, the ministry said media houses must also ensure that information shared with audiences is “verified and beyond reproach.”
The ministry concluded by saying it will continue to provide updates when necessary.
