The Ministry of Lands and Local Government is facing criticism over its handling of the Latrikunda German alkalo selection.

Some residents have accused officials of the Ministry of playing bias in the town’s leadership row by declaring Pa Omar Faal as the new head.

The camp of Pa Omar Faal and that of Suwaibou Faal have been at a loggerhead for more than a year over who should take the throne of town’s headship following the demise of the town chief.

The matter was taken to the Kanifing Municipal Council last year to help broker a solution.

It was however referred to the Ministry of Lands and Local Government who now declared Pa Omar Faal as the right person to succeed the throne.

But dozens of people supporting Suwaibou Faal opposed the ministry’s verdict and vowed to challenge the decisions.

They said they will not respect the verdict and pledged to shun working with Pa Omar Faal.

Mustapha Danso, who supports Suwaibou Faal, said: “I belong in the right camp which is Suwaibou’s camp because I know what Alkalorhsip is.

“The other camp is not a justifiable camp. They don’t know [any] legitimate right to be asking for the Alkalorhsip. His lineage is the Alkalorhsip of Latrikunda from his great grandfathers.

“This alkalorhsip is not a political thing. Musa Drammeh has definitely politicised the whole issue, myself have been watching a rally of President Barrow and I saw Pa Omar there. He is their buddy.”

“We will go to the minister and ask why he made the wrong decision. What he based his recommendation on is all fallacy. He cannot be a dictator on top of us, we will not accept it,” he added.
