The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has warned teachers in Region Two East (2E) to return to their classrooms immediately, after a small group staged a strike over alleged unpaid allowances.
In a statement, the Ministry described the strike as “insubordination” and stressed that disciplinary measures will be taken against those responsible if they fail to comply.
The dispute centers on so-called “double shift” allowances, which the Ministry says have already been clarified.
“Not all teachers in this region work in two shifts, and the discrepancies regarding nomenclature have been addressed with all relevant stakeholders,” the statement explained.
The Ministry highlighted that it remains committed to teachers’ welfare, particularly in security-sensitive areas like Region 2E, and that allowances will continue to be disbursed where applicable.
However, it warned that a small group of teachers, led by certain team leaders, cannot disrupt the education system.

“It is unfortunate that while we are making clarity and corrections regarding anomalies, a group of teachers decided to initiate a strike, urging colleagues not to report to school,” the Ministry said.
Teachers who abandoned their classes yesterday are being urged to return immediately “to avoid facing the consequences of their actions,” the statement added, while assuring all educators that their contributions are recognized and valued.
With schools already facing challenges in Region 2E, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted learning for students.
