An angry mob nearly lynched a driver suspected of involving in a hit-and-run crash in Manjai. 

Police say the accident which happened on Boxing Day involved a motorcycle and a vehicle. 

“Preliminary accident investigations revealed that the motorcycle was riding towards Manjai when the private car left its lane knocking the motorcycle carrying a passenger known as Modou Penn,” the police said. 

The driver fled the crash scene and was pursued by witnesses in another vehicle. 

He was intercepted at Pipeline where an angry mob attacked and manhandled him. His vehicle was damaged during the mob attack. 

Police say the driver was rescued from the mob by officers on patrol. 

The motorcyclist who was involved in the hit-and-run crash was rushed to Serrekunda General Hospital where he was treated and discharged. 

Police say they have launched an investigation and “appropriate actions will follow.”
