Sulayman Saho, national assembly member for Baddibu central, has joined anti-tobacco advocates as he called for introduction of a private member bill to control tobacco import and sale in the country.

The law maker’s call comes as the ministry of health lamented about the weak enforcement of public smoking and tobacco control despite a ban.

According to the ministry, 34 percent of non-communicable deaths in the country are caused by tobacco.

Meanwhile, Sulayman Saho who doubled as a member of the National Assembly Committee on Health called for the introduction of private member bill on tobacco, whilst urging the members to change the narrative by speaking more about tobacco damages on political platforms and radio talk shows.
