Gambian political activist Nyang Njie has been attacked in Banjul, Gambiana has learned.

The political activist and economist told Freedom newspaper that he was attacked on Saturday by two men, one of whom he identified as the son of the former mayor of Banjul Lai Bah.

“Two people came to attack me, and they have seen what happened there. So, it is not a situation of Waa Banjul against Daddy Njie,” Mr Nyang told Freedom newspaper.

“That’s is not the case, but it is something that I don’t want waste my time on. I have better things to do with my time than to worry about people, who have nothing to do.”

Mr Nyang recently caused uproar with an anti-Banjul rants that went viral where he blamed them for the country’s systemic corruption and bad governments.

He was accused of being disrespectful towards the people of Banjul including the city’s Imam Ratib with his political tirade.

Another version of event was that Mr Nyang was set upon by a mob of youths in Mosque Road in Banjul.

“The beating was so bad that Nyang was rushed by some who came to his rescue,” a source told Gambiana.

Gambiana called Mr Nyang but he declined our calls.
