BGP Prospector in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum & Energy (MOPE) is conducting a 3D survey for prospective oil basin offshore The Gambia.

According to Offshore magazine, a publication that covers offshore technology, oil and gas operations worldwide, TGS has started acquisition of the 4,770-sq km (1,842-sq mi) Gambito 2020 3D survey in the MSGBC basin offshore The Gambia.

Gambito 2020 will cover acreage in deep and ultra-deepwaters, which according to TGS could be highly prospective, based on extensive basin floor fans identified in 2D regional seismic grids.

The survey will also be adjacent to Jaan, a ~30,000-sq km (11,583-sq mi) 3D multi-client project which recently delivered final PSTM/PSDM products.

Acquisition should take around three months to complete, with the full dataset set to be available after final processing in 2Q 2021.

Results will support a future licensing round. TGS also has exclusive rights to existing multi-client seismic data off The Gambia.

Recently the vessel steamed south to prepare for the campaign after recently completing another 3D seismic survey for TGS off northern Senegal.

BGP is a geophysical service company, a subsidiary of the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation.

The company operates a fleet of seismic vessels to provide marine seismic data to global clients. Its 2D, 3D, 4D and OBC Marine Seismic Data collecting and processing vessels are operational in Southeast Asia, the Red Sea, the Bay of Bengal, South America, the North Sea, West Africa and the Gulf of Mexico.
