Police have detained five suspected thieves including a woman after anti-crime operatives patrol within Greater Banjul.

“Acting on a tip off from concerned citizens, personnel of the Anti-Crime Unit rounded up 5 individuals, including a woman suspected of being in possession of suspected stolen properties.

“Tairu Jallow 28-year-old Gambian, Ensa Camara, 18-year-old Gambian, Adama Saidy of Sukuta Nema, Momodou Jallow, a Senegalese and Isatou Bah, also a Senegalese all residing in one compound in Sukuta were nabbed with two taxis with registration numbers KM 0312 D, a Benz and a Golf with registration number BJL 0602Q,” Police said.

“After a thorough search 7 car batteries were found in the said vehicles and 20 litres of gasoline whilst 6 big padlocks, another car batteries, 8 rolls of water pipes, one Gambian voter’s card, 1 car key and 9000 Guineans francs in 1000 denominations.

“The suspects are cooperating with investigators for possible recovery of more stolen properties as well as identifying owners of the recovered properties,” Police added.
