Musa Jallow, a lab technician, is named as one of the victims of the fatal crash in Pirang

Police have confirmed the names of the six people killed in a crash in Pirang.

Ismaila Badjie 27, Fatou Njai, 70, Musa Jallow 25, Hamadi Sabally 41, and Anna Jarju, were killed when their gelle gelle van collided with a truck in Pirang on Friday.

According to police the passenger van was travelling from Bajagarr to Brikama on the Trans-Gambia Highway when the fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Friday.

“It involved a motor vehicle with registration number Bjl 3236 L Lima Truck driven by Babucarr Mbye, 27 years old of Old Yundum heading to Bullock and another  vehicle with registration Bjl 7516 N, 26 passenger sprinter van driven by 25 year old Musa Gibba of Jalokoto Foni.

“At the Pirang- Faraba bend, Musa Gibba driver to the van was overtaking another vehicle with speed when he lost control of the steering and collided with the truck driven by Babucarr Mbye resulting in a serious crash,” said police spokesman, Lamin Njie.

The two drivers survived the crash and are in custody helping police with their investigations

One of the victims, Musa Jallow was a lab technician at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital.

Family and loved ones of the victims have taken to social media to pay tributes to the victims.

“A brother from Foni village by the name of Musa Jallow was involved in a car accident yesterday morning around Kombo Pirang in which a Geleh-Geleh crashed with a truck. Musa was a lab technician and also a trainee dentist working with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Hospital. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him Jannatul firdaus,” said Demba Baldeh.

“A blood sister of mine was involved in the accident with three other people I know. My thoughts and prayers are with the departed souls. May Allah grant them paradise and help heal those that are in critical conditions,” said a Sadibou Badjie Bajagarr.
