Two police officers are being investigated after they were caught on tape bragging about tear-gassing UDP supporters at a protest rally on Tuesday.

The video has gone viral and caused alarm among many Gambians who have called for the officers to be punished.

UDP supporters clashed with riot police outside the Pipeline home of party leader Ousainou Darboe. They were protesting the December 4 presidential election which they claimed was stolen from them.

“The police management is aware of the video and has commenced an investigation into the conduct of the officers through the human rights and professional standards unit and appropriate actions will follow in due course,” police spokesman Assistant Superintendent Lamin Njie told The Standard.

The presidential election has been deemed to be free and fair by the IEC and election observers from EU, AU, Ecowas and the Commonwealth.
