Police have closed down seven unregistered bars and restaurants within the Greater of Banjul during an operation zero crime night patrol.

Police spokeswoman Cadet ASP Binta Njie said the patrol targeted bars and restaurants in Brikama, Brufut, Brusubi and Tallinding.

She said they have previously closed 18 bars and restaurants.

The police spokesperson also said their patrolling team arrested 48 people for disorderly behaviour, immigration offences, affray, going armed in public, possession of dangerous weapon as well as suspected cannabis sativa among others.

“It is confirmed that the arrestees constituted five females and 43 males. Among them are 39 Gambians, 3 Nigerians, 3 Sierra Leoneans, 2 Senegalese and a Mauritanian. 

“Nine of the arrestees are juveniles and the other 39 are all adults.

“Two of them were handed over to the drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia for crimes related to drugs. 

“Others have been handed over to the screening team at Brusubi Police Station while the rest are in detention,” she said.
