President Adama Barrow has pledged $100,000 on behalf of The Gambia at the African Union Humanitarian Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The donation was towards the African Humanitarian Agency, an AU initiative to address humanitarian and other disasters on the continent.

President Barrow said he welcomed the initiative to collectively “improve our humanitarian situation, which will continue to be potential channels to realising the ‘Africa We Want.’

“Food insecurity and malnutrition continue to hamper the continent’s progress,” he said.

The President concluded called on his fellow African leaders to “work towards mitigating our humanitarian challenges” by closing “the gap between humanitarian needs, intervention programmes, and funding”.
