President Adama Barrow is on a state visit to Equatorial Guinea where former president Yahya Jammeh is currently exiled.

Barrow accompanied by First Lady Madam Fatoumata Bah Barrow arrived in Malabo yesterday evening.

He was received at the Malabo International Airport by The Gambia’s ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ms. Jainaba Jagne, and Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as other dignitaries.

The president is attending the 16th Extraordinary Session of The African Union on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa.

The significance of the trip has raised eyebrows among the Gambian public. The Equatorial Guinean leader is close friend of Jammeh and offered him sanctuary after he was chased from power in 2017.

Many took to social media to express their views on the visit. One said: “Let the agenda of discussion with the Guinean Dictator include extradition of former Gambian Dictator to face justice here at home.”

Another said: “Finally the meeting point.

All will be discussed with the big man including his homecoming.”

Another added: “Extend our greetings to His Excellency, Sheikh Prof. DR. Alh. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, Babali Mansa. Meanwhile, you could bring him along as well if you really feel like.”
