Seedy Cham, president of Coalition of Progressive Gambians (CoPG), has given the reason for suspending their plan anti-government protest on Friday.

The group had been planning a protest against high food prices and corruption under Barrow’s government.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (9 November) at a news conference at the Supreme Islamic Council headquaters on MDI road in Kanifing, Seedy Cham said they decided to call off their anti-government protest after the government agreed to settle their demands.

“We have laid down our demands and the government agreed to meet up our demands,” he told reporters, adding “I want to inform the public, we have suspended our protest for now.”

“Our aim was to put the country on the right track in peace, because we had seen that the country is not on the right track.

“But after the engagement of the Supreme Islamic Council on several times led us to suspend our plan protest,” he added.
