National Youth President of the NPP, Momodou Sabally, has launched a strong political attack on Kanifing Mayor and UMC leader Talib Ahmed Bensouda, rejecting his recent remarks and escalating tensions over opposition politics.

Sabbally disputed Bensouda’s account of his temporary exit from politics after the 2021 presidential election, insisting that the mayor stepped back due to internal pressure within the opposition following the defeat.

He also challenged claims that UDP leader Ousainu Darboe played a role in convincing Bensouda to return to active politics, arguing instead that his comeback was linked to shifting political dynamics after the 2022 National Assembly elections.

“Darboe never convinced him to come back. He sat out and watched,” Sabally said, adding that Bensouda re-emerged when political conditions changed.

He further alleged that Bensouda’s return contributed to internal tensions within the opposition UDP, including disputes over influence and leadership direction – claims which remain unverified.

He referenced internal party processes such as congress activities in Janjanbureh and flagbearer discussions, describing them as moments that exposed divisions within the party structure.

Bensouda has not yet responded to the latest allegations.
