Noah Touray, secretary general and head of civil service, has clarified that the Barrow administration is “never responsible” for the missing 669 million dalasis.

However, he added the current government spent only 35.8 million dalasis out of the missing 669 million dalasis.

Speaking to GRTS tonight, Mr Touray said: “a total 633 million…one of the account during the former regime that’s the Jammeh era and it was opened in 2012 and monies were being paid into the account.

“So, over time a total of this 633 million dalasis was paid into the account over time and it was being used. When the new administration came they realised that this account was opened and the officials decided to close the account.

“They decided to close the account because perhaps they did not want to deal with past they want to open fresh and be responsible for their own actions and their own expenditure that’s why the account was closed.”

Mr Touray continued: “When the account was closed the balance in the account which was 1.4 million was transfered into newly opened account also as a security account and then then numbers are different.

“So, this 1.4 million dalasis was put into that account to open a new account. So, this 1.4 million dalasis balance was used to open a new account. Out of this 669 million only 35.8 was spent by the current administration.”
