A Gambian Islamic preacher has spoken against tribalism, labelling it as a “satanic evil” practice.

Shiekh Ama Jaiteh was speaking on Alfala radio, the nation’s only Islamic medium, over the weekend about tribalism.

He urged Gambians to shun it and asked those who labelled themselves ’tribalists’ to repent.

The Sheikh added: “Don’t look low upon your fellow human-beings because of their tribe, because of their social status, because of the clothes they wear.”

He narrated the story of Ibliss (Satan) who lost the grace of Allah for belittling and refusing to prostrate before Prophet Adam.

“That’s why belittling people is bad. Therefore, let us stop castigating and hating each other. Let us stop backbitting each other,” he added.

The highly-respect Sheikh advised Gambians and non-Gambians residing in the country to love one another as humans and desist from anything linked to tribalism and its related matters.
