Three state prosecution witnesses yesterday testified in the ongoing trial of Sainabou Mbye, Cherno Mbye and Kimbly Dambelly manslaughter case.

Corporal Jankey Manneh, from the police Serious Crime Unit, told the court that on the 22nd July 2022 she had contact with the first accused person Sainabou Mbye.

She explained that she was assigned by one of her supervisors to obtain a cautionary statement from Sainabou Mbye after she was extradited from Senegal following the death of baby Muhammad.

The witness said she took her to one of the offices in the police headquarters where she took statement from Ms Mbye in Wollof.

“I then read the cautionary warning to her that she doesn’t need to say anything unless she wishes . Whatsoever she said maybe used as evidence in a court of law,” the witness said.

Another prosecution witness Corporal Samba Mballow said he obtained cautionary statements from one Kibily Dambele, the third accused person.

“I interviewed Kibily and he told me a story about an incident that happened on the 3rd July 2022,” Mballow said.

“Well, I invited an independent witness,” he said.

The witness said he explained to Kibily in Fula Language the reason why the Independent Witness was brought.

“Then I brought a cautionary statement and recorded the details of Kibily Dambele and I further read the cautionary warnings to Kibily Dambele in the presence of an independent witness,” the witness added.

The witness said this was translated to Fula Langauge for Kibily Dambele. The witness added that Kibily said he was comfortable narrating his story in Fula.

The witness said Kibily disagreed to the charge made against him.

The manslaughter trial continues.
