Coalition 2026 flagbearer Talib Bensouda has pledged to abolish the Securiport passenger fee if elected president in the December 5, 2026 election.

Speaking at a rally in Bakoteh, Bensouda announced his intention to end the airport fees, which has attracted criticism from some travellers over the additional cost imposed on passengers.

For Gambians in the diaspora who frequently travel home to visit relatives, attend family events and invest in the country, the fee represents an additional expense on top of international airfares.

Bensouda’s pledge places the Securiport agreement among the issues being raised in the political debate ahead of the presidential election.

The information available from Sunday’s rally did not specify how a Coalition 2026 administration would address any contractual obligations arising from terminating the agreement or how the services currently provided under it would be maintained.

The Securiport agreement has faced scrutiny from auditors, lawmakers, tourism stakeholders and members of the travelling public, particularly over the charges imposed on passengers.
