Teachers in Foni Region Two East have begun a sit-down strike after going three months without their allowances, bringing teaching activities in several schools to a standstill.

The action follows the circulation of an internal letter dated 26 January 2026, in which the region’s teachers accused authorities of failing to pay allowances for October, November and December, despite what they described as repeated patience and attempts at dialogue.

In the notice issued by their Executive Committee, teachers were instructed to immediately suspend teaching duties while remaining present at their respective schools, in line with sit-down strike procedures.

The directive is clear: no teacher should resume work under any circumstances until all outstanding allowances are paid in full.

The committee further warned that classes will only resume after an official clearance is issued, signaling a hardening of stance amid growing frustration among staff.

The strike affects schools across the Bwiam, Ndemban and Sibanor clusters in Foni Region Two East.

Affected institutions include Jomokunda LBS, Kandonku LBS, Bulanjorr BSC, Jakoi Sibirk LBS, Kanuma BSC, Berefet BCS and Bantangjang LBS, among others.

In total, 112 teachers are reported to be impacted by the action, raising concerns about prolonged disruption to learning if the standoff is not quickly resolved.
