Team Gambia joined the vibrant closing ceremony of the inaugural African School Games at Annaba Stadium in Algeria, marking the end of a successful campaign that saw the country secure 12 medals across four sports.

The event brought together delegations from across the continent in a festive display of unity and sportsmanship. Algeria, the host nation, topped the medal table, followed by Egypt in second place and Tunisia in third.

During the ceremony, Algeria officially handed over the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) flag to Nigeria, which will host the next edition of the School Games in 2027.

Team Gambia’s athletes are scheduled to depart Algeria on Wednesday, 6 August, and are expected to arrive in Banjul the following morning. The rest of the Gambian delegation will follow on Thursday, 7 August.

The Games have been hailed as a milestone in promoting youth sports across Africa, with Team Gambia’s performance earning praise for its determination and spirit.
