The Gambia government has facilitated the return of 10 Gambian nationals from Iran, following an evacuation exercise coordinated amid concerns over the security situation in the region.
The returnees arrived at Banjul International Airport on Friday evening at around 19:00 GMT.
The evacuation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, working closely with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Gambian diplomatic missions in Qatar and Türkiye.

Officials said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Gambian citizens living abroad, particularly in areas affected by instability.
According to the ministry, the return was conducted on a voluntary basis, in line with international standards promoting safe, orderly and dignified migration.
Although 35 Gambians initially expressed interest in returning, only 10 opted to do so at this stage.
Upon arrival, the returnees were received by government officials and provided with immediate support to assist with their reintegration into their communities.
The government expressed appreciation to the International Organization for Migration for its continued partnership in supporting voluntary return and reintegration programmes.
It also commended the efforts of its diplomatic staff, both at home and abroad, for coordinating the operation under what it described as challenging circumstances.
The government said they remain committed to protecting Gambians overseas and will continue to monitor developments closely, taking further action where necessary to safeguard citizens.
