At least three young Gambian men are reportedly killed by Senegal’s military drones in former President Yahya Jammeh’s home region of Foni.

Senegales forces stationed in the country have not make any comments on the report.

However, Yankuba E Jarju told Gambiana the victims were shot to death while fetching firewoods in the bush. 

“A fourth victim with potentially fatal bullet wounds is rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention,” he said.

“Senegalese armed forces stationed in the Gambia have been carrying out cruel and unprovoked attacks on Gambian citizens since 2017. Many people have been killed, severely beaten, and illegally imprisoned,” he added.

There is a growing calls backed by opposition MPs from the region for the withdrawal of the Senegalese forces in the region.

However, Defence minister Serign Modou Njie told parliament that only the regional bloc, Ecowas, can withdraw the forces in the country.

The forces are believed to be among Ecowas standby forces sent to the country after former President Yahya Jammeh refused to step down afrer losing the 2016 Presidential election to Adama Barrow.
