A sitting of the Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission

Women victims of the former Jammeh regime are being urged to share their experiences with the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

The call was made on the Monday’s resumption of the Commission’s session.

The Chairman of the Commission, Dr Lamin Sise, said: “The TRRC encouraged women to come forward to share their experiences in accordance with the (Commission’s) modalities.”

He slammed critics of the Commission who are saying the Commission is a “witch-hunt” as “merely false accusations.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Truth Commission to seeking out the truth in a “balanced and fair manner”.

The Commission now begins it seventh session – in which the former members of the infamous death squad of Jammeh, the Jungulers, are giving their testimonies of past wrongdoings.

Twenty persons testified in the sixth session making a total of over 90 people testified.

Today’s hearing is from Ishmael Jammeh who is believed to be a former member of the Jungulers.
