Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan is to make an official state visit to The Gambia next week.

An official of the ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that arrangements for the state visit were being worked out by the Foreign ministers of both countries.

Saikou Ceesay spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, told reporters that the state visit is to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries that dates back to 1965.

Meanwhile Turkey’s new ambassador to The Gambia, Tolga Bermek today presented his Letter of Accreditation to President Adama Barrow at the State House in Banjul.

Ambassador Bermek described the “excellent cordial relations” between Ankara and Banjul, adding that is one of the reasons why President Erdogan will be visiting The Gambia next week.
