The leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, has arrived in Seattle, United States, ahead of the second UDP Diaspora Convention, set to bring together supporters from across North America and beyond.
Mr. Darboe touched down alongside senior party officials and diaspora delegates to a rousing welcome by party supporters clad in the party’s signature yellow.

The arrival marks the beginning of a weekend of political dialogue, strategic planning, and community mobilisation, as the UDP gears up for The Gambia’s 2026 presidential elections.
Chants, songs, and celebrations echoed through the arrival venue, with party supporters describing the moment as “historic” and symbolic of the UDP’s growing global influence.
Organisers say the convention will focus on policy direction, fundraising, diaspora engagement, and preparations for the 2026 polls.

It is also expected to feature keynote speeches, networking sessions, and strategic discussions to unify and energise the party’s base abroad.
The convention underscores the importance of the diaspora in the party’s political machinery, with many viewing the event as a key moment in the UDP’s road to 2026.
