Hundreds of United Democratic Party supporters are gathering at a hotel for the start of the party’s conference.

The three-day congress will be attending by the party’s leadership including Ousainou Darboe, Aji Yam Secka, Momodou Sanneh and mayors Ahmed Talib Bensouda and Roehy Malick Lowe.

Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda said the UDP will emerge victorious in the 2021 presidential elections, adding that the party is coming up with politics “that seeks to address real issues of youths, children and women.

“At this congress the United Democratic Party will set the foundations and build the road map that will demonstrate to the whole Gambia that we are indeed a party like no other.”  

Aji Yam Seck urged the party members to renew their commitment for what she called “the struggle.”

UDP, is the largest opposition party in The Gambia and has been contesting elections since 1996.

President Barrow was a member of the UDP until his falling out with Ousainou Darboe, the party’s leader since 1996.
