Ebrima Dibba, National President of the United Movement for Change (UMC), has compared the movement’s leader, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, to Prophet Yusuf, saying political opponents have tried unsuccessfully to stop his rise.

Dibba made the remarks during UMC’s grand political rally held at the Buffer Zone, where supporters gathered in large numbers as the movement continued its mobilisation efforts ahead of future political activities.

Addressing supporters, Dibba described Talib Bensouda as a disciplined and hardworking leader whose political journey, according to him, resembles the story of Prophet Yusuf.
“The name I am giving Talib Bensouda is Prophet Yusuf,” Dibba declared during the rally.

“Because his attitude and that of Prophet Yusuf are the same. They fought Prophet Yusuf but they could not stop him, and they also fought Talib Ahmed Bensouda but they could not stop him and they will never stop him,” he said.

The UMC National President argued that despite criticism and political opposition directed at Talib Bensouda over the years, the Kanifing mayor has continued to gain support and strengthen his political influence.

Dibba further praised Bensouda’s leadership style, describing him as focused, disciplined, and committed to serving Gambians.

“He is disciplined and hardworking and come December 5, he will be declared president of The Gambia,” Dibba added as supporters cheered during the gathering.

The remarks formed part of a series of speeches delivered during the rally, where party supporters and officials expressed confidence in the movement’s political ambitions.

The United Movement for Change recently unveiled its executive members, with Talib Bensouda serving as Movement Leader.

The movement has since intensified its public engagements and mobilisation activities across the country.

Talib Bensouda, who currently serves as Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, has emerged as one of the country’s prominent opposition political figures, particularly among young supporters and urban voters.
