The Unite Party and the National Unity Party (NUP) are set to formalise a political alliance on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, in a move the two parties describe as a significant step towards strengthening opposition cooperation ahead of The Gambia’s presidential election on 5 December 2026.

The Political Alliance Agreement will be signed during a ceremony at Pencha Mi Hall, Paradise Hotel, beginning at 5 p.m.

According to a joint statement, the alliance is founded on a shared commitment to democratic governance, national unity, accountable leadership and inclusive development.

The two parties said the agreement reflects their determination to present Gambians with a united political platform aimed at addressing the country’s major challenges while pursuing a common vision for national progress and prosperity.

The signing ceremony is expected to bring together the leadership of both parties, senior party officials, supporters, invited guests, development partners and members of the media.

Party leaders are also expected to outline the objectives of the alliance and explain how the partnership fits into their strategy for the December presidential election.

The announcement comes at a time of increasing political realignments ahead of the polls, with several parties pursuing alliances and cooperation agreements in an effort to strengthen their electoral prospects.

Organisers described the agreement as a landmark moment in Gambian politics and said it marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between the two parties.
