Veteran Gambian journalist and news anchor Ebou Waggeh has died aged 63, family sources said.

One of the most celebrated Gambian broadcasters, Ebou Waggeh was best known for moderating GRTS news and for groundbreaking documentaries.

Mr Waggeh’s sudden death on Monday

has shocked many Gambians including his professional colleagues. No cause of death is yet to be officially established.

Until his untimely death, Mr Waggeh was the director of video and documentary at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Ebou Waggeh was born and raised in the capital, Banjul. He worked as a video editor at the state broadcaster, GRTS, before quitting to start Wags Media, a multi-media consultancy and film production company.  He also serves as Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards judge.

Tributes have been paid to the veteran Gambian journalists.
