Thousands of Gambians paid their last respects to the veteran broadcaster Alhagie Sarjo Barrow as he was laid to rest.

Sarjo Barrow died on Sunday at his residence in Brusubi following long ill health. He was 66 years old.

President Adama Barrow (who is not a relation) sent a government delegation to Sarjo Barrow’s funeral.

The President said in a statement:

“I learnt with shock, the death of veteran broadcaster, Alhaji Sarjo Barrow, a phenomenal son of the land who served the national broadcaster for over 30 years.
As a patriot, his legacy should serve as example, inspiration to us all.”

Sarjo Barrow, who started his journalism career in 1979, was admired by many Gambians for his eloquent news reading in the Mandinka language.

He is survived by his four wives and children.
