The Gambian Vice President Alieu Badara Joof accompanied by senior government officials and security heads toured flood affected communities in the Greater Banjul Area. 

VP Joof began his tour in Ebo Town before moving to Bakoteh market area, Serrekunda market, Churchill’s Town and Sukuta Nemasu areas.

He expressed sympathy with the affected communities especially families.

“President Barrow and the First Family are aware of what is happening and their hearts go out to all communities and persons affected by the floods,” he told the communities.

Meanwhile, the bridge between Kotu and Fajara Traffic Lights Area is submerged and motorists and members of the public are urged to avoid that bridge until the water level subsides to safety level. 

The police have sealed the area as a precautionary measure.

Dozens of homes have been submerged by a heavy downpour of rains which started early Saturday through to Sunday evening. 

Many Gambians have expressed their sadness and blamed the National Disaster Management Agency for inadequate response to the flood. 

Flash flooding is common during the raining season in The Gambia.
