The West Coast Region Sports Committee (WCRSC) has announced that the abandoned match between Sanyang and Gunjur Zones will be officially replayed at the Sanyang Football Field.

The West Coast Region Sports Committee (WCRSC) confirmed in a letter that “the match will be officially replayed at the Sanyang Football Field, allowing Sanyang to enjoy their home-field advantage, as is consistent for all zones in the competition.”

Bakary Sussoh, the Secretary General wrote the Committee “deeply regrets the incident and acknowledges the disruption it caused to the smooth running of the competition.”

He added that a review confirmed “a combination of misconduct, inadequate adherence to competition rules, and lapses in the application of the Laws of the Game by the referee contributed to the disorder.”

The Committee has decided that while Sanyang Zone must pay the imposed fine, “the players previously considered for suspension are cleared of all suspension-related sanctions.”

To prevent future incidents, the WCRSC advice the West Coast Region Zonal Committee to implement “stricter security measures, including increased personnel, reinforced access control, and improved pitch-side supervision.”

In addition, all teams must attend a “compulsory pre-match briefing…to be reminded of expected behavior, dispute-resolution procedures, and match day protocols.”

The Secretary General emphasised that “football is a sport founded on discipline, respect, and unity,” and called on all zones, officials and supporters to cooperate to ensure the competition concludes in a “fair, safe, and enjoyable manner.”
