A woman was seen today wailing with her hands on her head as thieves stole her 7,000 dalasis which was meant for shopping clothes for her kids for the Koriteh celebration.

“I am finished, where will I get money to buy clothes for my kids. They stole my 7,000 dalasis in my hand bag,” the woman was heard by our reporter say in Wolof, as group of men and women console her.

This happened around the Brikama car garage in Serrekunda, which is known of harbouring notorious pickpockets.

Serrekunda is one of the busiest town during feast shoppings, but more than 50% of people seen within the town’s market are not for business but for stealing crusade.

However, some experts linked the rise in crimes and stealing to rising unemployment among youths of the country.
