Exiled former President Yahya Jammeh has abandoned his planned return home following the capture of one of the feared members of his hit squad.

Sanna Manjang was apprehended along with several accomplices in southern Senegal.

He is set to be repatriated to Banjul for prosecution over human rights violations allegedly committed during the Jammeh era.

Jammeh, 60, who has been living in exile since 2017, had threatened a forceful return this month.

However, a breakaway faction of his APRC party issued a communique announcing a postponement.

“We wish to inform all party militants and the general public at large that the scheduled homecoming of His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh, initially planned for this November, has been delayed due to unfinished logistical arrangements,” Momodou Yafaye Tamba, the group leader, said in the communique.

The group promised to inform supporters of a new date for their leader’s return.
