Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, has taken a swipe at President Adama Barrow’s government over its performance in the ferry sector, drawing comparisons with former leader Yahya Jammeh.

Mr Darboe claimed that in nearly 10 years of governance, the current administration has procured only one ferry, while the previous government acquired six ferries during its 22 years in power.

He questioned claims by the Barrow administration that it has delivered unprecedented development, arguing that such statements do not reflect the reality on the ground.

“Gambians should be aware of them,” Darboe said, as he urged citizens to critically examine government achievements.

His comments come at a time when ferry services remain a key issue for many Gambians, particularly those relying on crossings between Banjul and the North Bank Region.

The ferry system continues to be a vital part of the country’s transport network, often attracting public attention due to challenges such as delays, breakdowns and capacity concerns.

While critics have raised concerns over service delivery, government supporters maintain that broader infrastructure developments under President Barrow demonstrate progress across multiple sectors.
