Zimbabwe Health Minister Obadiah Moyo was arrested by police on Friday over allegations of corruption in government procurement of around $20 million worth of medical equipment, the Daily News newspaper reported.

He is the second minister in Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to face corruption charges.

The deal with two-month old firm Drax Consult is alleged to have been completed without the legal consent of Zimbabwe’s procurement registration authority.

Last week Delish Nguwaya, said to be a local representative of international pharmaceutical firm Drax International, the company supplying the equipment to the government, was arrested over the same deal, according to the state-owned Zimbabwe broadcasting Commission.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since cancelled the procurement deals.

Zimbabwe says it has confirmed nearly 500 coronavirus cases, including four deaths.

The country is also facing its worst economic crisis and there is mounting public anger over poor services and corruption.
