Angry protesters have set ablaze the house of Gorgi Mboob, the head of the Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), following the death in custody of a street vendor.

The protesters are street vendors who accused the Police Intervention Unit of killing their colleague, Ousman Darboe, who was in their custody.

They were reported to have marched on Wednesday to the house of the Anti-Crime boss at Ebo Town and set it ablaze.

According to eyewitnesses the protesters pelted the house with stones before setting it ablaze. The fire destroyed items in the house but no one was in the house when it was burned.

Police were quick to arrive at the scene and dispersed the protesters.

Residents expressed concern and urged the government to maintain law and order.
