Attack, whose real name is Abdoulie Gaye, has sparked controversy in the Gambian music scene after alleging that he is being made a scapegoat due to tribalism, allegedly fuelled by some Mandinka fans.
Speaking to West Coast Coffee Times on Friday, Attack claimed that tribalism is a major obstacle hindering the progress of the Gambian music industry.
“Tribalism is the main thing that has been weakening Gambian music,” he told the radio programme.
Justifying his claims, Attack said he has been a victim of tribal bias for years, particularly after his public feud with fellow artist ST, also known as Brikama Boyo.
“Actually, I have been a victim and I am still a victim of what I am talking about,” he added.

Following his interview, dozens of Gambians took to social media to criticise him for pointing fingers at the Mandinka people, many of whom, according to comments online, are actually fans of Attack.
However, Attack stated that due to tribalism, most of his supporters are from the Wolof community, although he also has Mandinka fans.
“For me, I have been singing in Wolof and most of my fans are Wolof,” he said. “But I also have a lot of Mandinka fans, and many fans from the Mandinka and Jola communities.”
According to him, despite support from people of other tribes, tribal loyalty often influences who fans choose to support.

“Each ethnic group has its own artists. When you go to the Mandinka community, they have their big star who they will always support.”
“When I have a show, many of these people choose not to attend, and no Mandinka comes to my shows. They’ve been trying to bring me down on social media,” he alleged.
